Maxine & Dagmar, Entry for October 29-30, 2007

Oct. 30 - When I arrived today, I found Maxine laying on the foot of the bed in the left corner.  I gave her some scratchies and went about my chores.  Maxine came out to play as usual and stayed around in the living room area for a while.  She retired to the bed back to her original position.  I laid down on the side of the bed and talked to Dagmar for a while, but he didn't budge.  I suppose he wasn't going to make the same mistake as yesterday.  I think that he is just missing his Mom too much and does not know what to do instead.  Even the cat dancer and the laser pointer could not get him out.  I really wanted to meet him, however I saw his little scared eyes the day before in the light of the bathroom and knew that he would take longer than we had for him to overcome being scared and shy. So, I look forward to more opportunities next time !

Oct. 29When I arrived tonight Maxine was out of site, however when I popped the top off of the cat food can she quickly emerged from the bedroom.  She watched me put out the food, checked it out then came over to the living room area for some scratchies and play.  She chased the laser pointer for a while and accepted some scratchies and watched me for a while before returning underneath the bed.  Dagmar was under the bed as well in the middle again.  I talked to him for a while and stretched my arm underneath the bed hoping that he would sniff my hand.  I was hoping that Maxine would set an example for Dagmar and come over to me for some scratchies.  I spoke very nice to her but she wouldn't move from her position and show Dagmar that I wasn't a threat.  Eventually Dagmar slowly crept to the other side and made a break for the kitchen area.  I looked around for him and finally found him in the bathroom floor next to the tub.  He decided that it was time to exit and make a break for under the bed.  I managed a little scratchie as he passed :))

Thank you for taking such good care of my babies! This 3-day trip is the longest I've ever been away from them. I am glad to hear (and quite impressed!) that you were able to muster some interaction with them (actually am surprised Maxine was more interactive than Dagmar). If the cat-dancer didn't do it for them, nothing would. Hopefully they'll enjoy your company a bit more next time around. It took them awhile to warm up to me when i got home last night, so I am sure they were upset that i left them. (isn't it interesting how sensitive cats are?) Thanks again!!!!
